The West African Green Economic Development Institute was created with a vision to pursue Nigeria nay West African sustainable development drive, and seeks to promote green economy agenda within the West African sub-region and ultimately become a global player in a green economy development mix.
The Institute was established in Gregory Univeristy Uturu, Abia State, Nigeria in 2017 with Dr Magnus C Onuoha as the Executive Director (Research) and Dr Emeka Okengwu as the Director (External Linkage and Collaboration). The Board was fromally inaugurated under the administration of the Vice-Chancellor of Gregory University uturu Professor A. A Uwakwe.
The West Africa Economic Development Institute's vision is tied to Nigeria, nay West Africa sustainable development drive, and seeks to promote green economy agenda within the West Africa sub-region and ultimately, become a global player in green economy development mix.
In line with the vision, West Africa Green Economic Development Institute (WAGEDI) aims at;
- Stimulating and providing evidence based research on green impact investment accross the various socio-economic environmental sectors accross the economy.
- Developing and improving on social inclusive models across alsectors of the economy
- Developing investments models for West Africa Emission Trading Schemes
- Developing research investment models in Science and Technology Innovations (STIs) taking into cognizance resources efficency and clean technologies
West Africa Green Economic Development Institute (WAGEDI), is programmed to adopt five methods and approaches in its operation.
Responsive and proactive research in green economy development so as to provide evidence for infromation policy making
Facilitating links and dialogue between policy makers and key stakeholders, including private sectors and civil society
Conveying expert forums on key green economy question. it can be monthly, quarterly or annually, depeneding on the issues at the moment.
West Africa Green Economic Development Institute (WAGEDI) will ensure networking and collaboartion with Nigerians, Pan African and internatiobal institutions focused on overcoming common green economy challenges through the supply of research evidence for policies (e.g Ethiopian Research Institute [ERI]; African Technolgy and Policy Network Studies [ATPS], Kenya).
Cosulting services for policy and institution reforms, training and capacity building (e.g organizing consultancy services to government and private sectors).
